Spiral Brushes

Strip brushes can be wound according to application. For light work it may be more suitable to 'open' up the strip to achieve a less dense and hence more flexible brush.

For heavy work or where greater pressure will be required it is more advantageous to closely wind.

Spiral Strip Brushes

Spiral strip brushes can be supplied either onto a refillable core, onto a shaft or can be supplied loose for fitting to customer's existing shaft. A typical application is a screw auger brush for the winery industry. This is supplied loose and fitted to the crushing auger for the removal of skins and seeds.

STEEL CHANNEL STRIP
Filament is held under the holding
wire, which in turn is held in place
by the closure of the strip back.
TANGED STRIP
Filament is held under the center wire and locked in place between the tangs. The centre wire is in turn held in place by the tangs which are perforated and folded back from the metal backing strip.

Strip Types

Thompson Brushes manufactures two forms of continuous strip, Steel Channel strip and Tanged strip. For the vast majority of strip brush requirements, Steel Channel Strip offers an effective, economical brush solution. Where increased security of retention of fibre is Tanged strip is available.

How to Specify a Strip Brush

Specifying Strip

Strip is specified by the width of the "Strip back" (ie. 8mm Strip) the filament, the overall height and the length of the strip. (eg. 8mm ST, 0.015" Crimped Nylon, 24mm o/h x 1000mm long). The height of the strip back, unless otherwise stated, would be approximately the same as the strip back size.

Strip Back Widths:
The Continusous Brush Strip sizes available are as follows:
3mm, 3.5mm, 4mm, 4.8mm, 5mm, 6mm, 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 14mm.

Strip Back Materials:
Strip backs can be produced in Zincseal, Galvanised or #304 Stainless Steel. Tanged Strip (available in 10mm Strip) can also be made from
#316 S/S.

Filament:
Polypropylene filament is stocked in crimped and Level material from 0.008" to 0.100".
Nylon filament is stocked in crimped and Level material (generally 66 Nylon though some stocks of 612 are also held) from 0.005" to 0.050".
